The Malaysia team is honored to be invited to participate in the Sarawak Geomatics and Innovative Competition (SGCIC) for the second consecutive year. The SGCIC is an annual competition held for GIS and Geomatics students to showcase their talent on creating the most creative and innovative maps.
Participants from Politeknik MeAs part of the competition, participants need to collect and edit Link, Place and PA in Map Creator. The purpose of doing so is to…
- Introduce HERE Expert Community Program,
- Promote Map Creator as a mapping tool and learning platform to the participants, event those without GIS and Geomatics background,
- Build a community that shares the same passion in travel mapping.
The SGCIC attracted a total of 109 students from three participating institutions – Politeknik Kuching, Politeknik Metro Betong and Politeknik Mukah. A series of workshops were conducted between 22nd of July to 12th August to ensure that the participants understand the rules of the competition.
The event was held at Dewan Jubli Perak, Politeknik Kuching on 9th September 2016. There were lots of activities going on – from exhibitions by the students and industry players, Creative Map Final Evaluation (where a HERE Malaysia colleagues was one of the panel judges), prize giving ceremony to the official Closing Ceremony by the Politeknik Director.
The Malaysia team also set up a booth at the event to not only engage with the existing community users but also to acquire new ones. Through this event, we acquired 56 new users and 109 active users. In addition, the participants contributed around 15K Links (new/update), 9K Places (new/update) and 9K new PAs in a month! This is an estimate of 50-70% increment compared to the previous month. Well done Malaysia team!
